Gimpo Airport Gravel

My buddy Suha was playing around with the Naver map program and told me he thought the area around Gimpo Airport in Seoul looked like a great spot for some gravel riding.  I decided to go check it out a few weeks ago despite the freezing temps.

I was very happy with what I found.  There are a few nice long stretches of gravel, intermixed with 1 lane cement farm roads.  Basically there are no buildings on the west and south side of the airport so the airplanes can take off and both areas have their own flavor of gravel roads.

I highly encourage anyone near Seoul who is itching for some gravel to go check it out.

My bike was covered in frozen mud after the ride
Quite a few mudholes

Lots to explore out there!

Rubi Gravel Ride Episode 2

We recently held the second Rubi Gravel ride on a course in Namyangju Si outside of Seoul. The weather was chilly at 28F but we had a nice group of riders and some warm sunshine.  There was potential for mud but everything was frozen solid.

The course followed a creek out of town from Byeol Nae Byeol Garam station before entering a farming village area.  From there we weaved through narrow cement farm lanes, dove down some gravel paths and even a bit of single track. It's a pretty easy course overall without too much climbing (for Korea).

After the ride we warmed up with a coffee and Suha took some nice shots of everyone with their bikes.

I'm looking forward to the next gravel ride in a few weeks which will be held near Gimpo airport.
